What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural approach to “getting your health back on track”.

It’s simple, safe and scientific.

Did you know that your existence depends on the trillions of signals travelling every second between your brain and body? These signals can be “short circuited” by improper motion or position of the bones of your spine. When these “short circuit” so can you!

As chiropractors, we work with you and your body and its amazing ability to keep you healthy.

Who can benefit from Chiropractic?

People experience the benefits of chiropractic care in many ways, for back and neck pain or stiffness, sciatica, hip and knee pain, headache, neurological problems, and many more…

People also visit their Chiropractor for more mobility, improved sports performance, and for natural & wholistic healthcare for themselves and their families.

Children & Chiropractic

If you’ve ever watched a child play, you’ll understand how the constant bumps and falls of normal childhood may impact the physical health of the spine.

‘If the twig is bent, so grows the tree…’

Parents often appreciate the importance of checkups for their child’s teeth, hearing, eyes, ears, nose & throat but often neglect the system that links them all – the spine and nervous system.

At Newport Junction Chiropractic our practitioners provide gentle & safe care to children of all ages, form newborn through to adolescence.

The best start you can give your child is to make sure they are growing strong, straight & healthy.

What to expect on your first visit

On visiting our clinic, we will perform a thorough history and physical examination of the spine and related areas.

Areas seemingly unrelated to your pain may also be examined, as the cause may be located elsewhere.

If necessary, x-rays will be ordered to assess the condition of your spine.

We will take the time to explain to you your problem, what we will do and what to expect.

What to expect on your subsequent visit

On a typical visit we will discuss your progress and health concerns, and reassess how your body has responded between visits.

We provide individual service and treatment specifically designed to suit your needs and your problem.

Your care may involve adjustments – gentle and specific movements applied to a joint that is ‘locked up’, or not moving efficiently. This safe and natural and performed differently dependent on your age and problem. Techniques vary in every situation. Usually the doctor’s hands, or a specifically designed instrument, delivers a brief and highly-accurate adjustment. Some adjustments are quick, whereas others require a slow and constant pressure.

We respect you, your choices and your time – in most cases we will see you at, or very close, to your scheduled appointment time.

FAQs

No. Although we receive many referrals from GP’s, midwives, health centre nurses and other health professionals (masseurs, podiatrists, naturopaths, etc), most of our referrals come from our satisfied and happy patients.

In most cases, no. However, some people may be eligible for up to 5 visits per year under the Enhanced Primary Care program. Please contact the clinic or your GP to discuss this further.

Yes. Most health insurance policies with “extras” will contribute towards your care. Please contact your insurer for more details. We also offer the HICAPS system, so bring your health insurance card and all you will need to do is pay the “gap”

A Chiropractic adjustment involves the application of a specific force, in a precise direction helping to restore movement in a poorly functioning joint. Adjustments are extremely safe and effective in enhancing movement, and optimising nervous system function. There are numerous ways to adjust the spine. Your Chiropractor will discuss these methods with you and recommend a technique most suited to you.

The popping sound is a release of gas, caused by a change of pressure in the joint when it is adjusted. Most importantly, it usually doesn’t hurt and it is NOT the bones cracking! Some techniques will produce no sound at all.

The number of treatments varies from patient to patient. This all depends on your presenting complaint, your health and lifestyle habits. Some people seek Chiropractic care purely for pain relief, whilst others choose to have on going care to enhance their health and wellbeing.
